The 3D study, conducted by the Réseau intégré de recherche en périnatalité du Québec et de l’est de l’Ontario (IRNPQEO), seeks to better understand the effect of various exposure factors on the course of pregnancy, the health of the mother and father, and the development of the child. These exposure factors include lifestyle habits, heredity, diet, employment and family situation.

To achieve these objectives, the 3D study set up a cohort (mother-father-child) and followed it up until the children were two years old. Data and biological material (samples) are collected from this cohort to form a database and a bank of biological material (also known as a biobank).
